How to use the anagram solver

  1. Enter your letters. Type up to 15 letters from your rack, puzzle or jumble. Spaces and capitals are fine.
  2. Add blanks if you have them. Type ? for a blank tile or an unknown letter. You can use up to two.
  3. Read the results. Full anagrams that use every letter come first. Shorter words follow, grouped by length with the longest at the top.
  4. Narrow it down. Use the filter to keep words that contain or start with certain letters, and switch the sort to A to Z when you want an alphabetical list.
  5. Copy a word. Tap or click any word to copy it.

Tips for word games

  • Hunt for endings first. Letter groups like -ING, -ED, -ER and -S turn one short word into several longer ones.
  • Pair up tricky letters. Q usually wants U, and letters like C, S and T often travel as CH, SH and TH.
  • Move the vowels around. Shuffle the vowels between the consonants in your head. A new vowel pattern often reveals a word you missed.
  • Bank the short words. Two and three letter words like QI, ZA and JO score well and fit into tight spaces.
  • Practice a little every day. A daily word puzzle trains your eye to spot patterns faster.

What is an anagram?

An anagram is a word or phrase made by rearranging all the letters of another one. LISTEN and SILENT are anagrams, and so are EARTH and HEART.

How does this anagram solver work?

It checks your letters against a list of about 168,000 English words and shows every word you can spell with them, using each letter once. Words that use all of your letters appear first, followed by shorter words grouped by length.

Can I use blank tiles or wildcards?

Yes. Type a question mark (?) for each blank tile or unknown letter, up to two per search. The solver fills each blank with any letter that makes a real word.

Which word list does the solver use?

It uses ENABLE, a public domain word list that many word games rely on, with offensive words removed. Some very new words or proper names may be missing.

Is it cheating to use an anagram solver?

That depends on your game and the people you play with. Many players use a solver to practice, learn new words, or check what they missed after a round. In a friendly game, agree on the house rules first.
